'Unseeded' Chae Eun Lee shares 1R lead at KLPGA Ladies Classic

Lee Chae-eun (24-Angang Gulsul), the 60th-ranked player on the Korean Ladies Professional Golf (KLPGA) Tour's season money list, is tied for the lead on the first day of the SK networks-Seoul Economic Ladies Classic ($800,000).

Lee carded nine birdies and one bogey for an 8-under 64 in the first round of the tournament on Saturday at Finks Golf Club (Par 72) in Seogwipo, Jeju Island.

This puts her at the top of the leaderboard alongside SK networks' Lee Seung-yeon, who carded eight birdies without a bogey, including four straight birdies from holes 15-18.

Lee was ranked 60th on the money list heading into the tournament, making her seeding for next season an emergency.

Players ranked 60th on the KLPGA Tour money list can retain their seeding for next season, but those ranked 61st and below will have to fight for seeding.

After the match, Lee said, "I entered this tournament with the determination to go to Jeju Island in hell. I'm currently ranked 60th on the prize money list, but I can't relax."

"I felt good with my shots, had a lot of birdie chances and finished my putts well. Overall, I played well today," she said, adding, "I will try to keep my timing and rhythm as good as possible over the next three days."

Lee, who was battling a cold, got off to the best possible start in the sponsored event. Lee will be looking for her second career victory, some four years and six months after her first at the Nexen St. Nine Masters in April 2019.

"I had a cold last week, so I wasn't feeling well. I wanted to play well as it was the main sponsor's tournament, but I was able to play well because I was desperate," she said.

Yoo Seo-yeon (BHC Group) finished in a tie for third place with a 6-under-par 66, while Hong Jin-young (An Kang E&C), Park Hyun-kyung (Korea Land Trust), Kim Ji-hyun (Daebo E&C), and Choi Eun-woo (Amano) tied for fourth place with a 5-under-par 67.

Lee Ye-won (KB Financial Group), who leads the tournament in wins, money, points and scoring average, finished the first round in a tie for eighth place at 4-under 68.

Last year's winner, So Mi Lee (Daebang E&C), was tied for 71st at 1-over par 73. 슬롯
